Monsoon rains expected across Punjab in next 24 hours

Monsoon rains are expected in most districts of Punjab over the next 24 hours, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA)

The current monsoon season is driving water levels to rise in rivers, dams, and streams, prompting fears about floods.

The PDMA representative stated that the Indus River is suffering a low-level flood near Tarbela and Kalabagh. From August 1 to 4, the Jhelum River in Mangla might see medium to severe floods.

There is also a possibility of flooding in the Chenab River at Marala, Khanki, and Qadirabad. The monsoon rains are forecast to last until August 4.

In response to probable flood concerns, PDMA has completed all essential measures in susceptible districts.

The Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz, has urged the government and relevant ministries to be watchful and ensure public safety measures are in place.
