Trump is a ‘coward’: Kamala implies during Pennsylvania appearance

US Vice President Kamala Harris indirectly criticized former President Donald Trump on Sunday, claiming that her opponent was a “coward” whose politics revolved around undercutting competitors, according to Reuters.

Harris made these remarks during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, with her running partner, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. This appearance happened before Clinton left for the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, which begins on Monday.

Harris addressed the gathering of fans, saying, “Over the last several years, there’s been this kind of distortion that has occurred, I believe, which is to suggest that the measure of a leader’s power is dependent on who you knock down. We know that the genuine and true measure of a leader’s power is determined by people they boost up. Anyone who wants to beat up other people is a coward.”

She did not specifically mention Trump, who referred to Harris as a “radical” and a “lunatic” at a campaign stop in eastern Pennsylvania on Saturday.

Opinion surveys show Harris bringing new energy to the campaign and reducing the distance with former President Trump both nationally and in several of the eight highly competitive states, including Pennsylvania, that will play a critical role in determining Democratic President Joe Biden’s successor.

If Harris wins in November, she will become the first woman president.

She claimed she was almost finished preparing the speech she will give when she receives the Democratic presidential nomination on Thursday.

“There will be a lot about what I believe is a way forward, a new way forward, and bringing everyone along with that,” she told reporters outside a restaurant.

Trump claimed on Saturday that he thought she would be easier to beat than Biden, 81, who quit out last month due to pressure from his own party following a catastrophic debate with Trump.

Pennsylvania was one of three Rust Belt states, along with Wisconsin and Michigan, that contributed to Republican Donald Trump’s unexpected victory in the 2016 election.

Biden, who grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, switched the trio back to the Democrats in 2020, and Harris hopes to keep them.

According to sources, she will likely accompany Biden on stage at the convention on Monday when he passes the torch to her as the party’s presidential nominee.

The Trump team will attempt to counter-program the convention this week with a series of swing-state rallies. He will visit a manufacturing site in York, Pennsylvania, on Monday, where his campaign promises to focus on the economy, and a county sheriff’s office in Howell, Michigan, on Tuesday to discuss safety and crime.

Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance, will travel to Asheboro, North Carolina, on Wednesday for national security remarks, and on Friday, Trump will join Turning Point Action, a group founded by conservative activist Charlie Kirk, for a rally in Glendale, Arizona, to highlight efforts to increase turnout.

Trump supporters said they hope he would center his campaign on substance rather than the frequent personal assaults on Harris that he has used heavily in the weeks since she emerged as the Democratic contender.

“President Trump can win this election. His policies benefit America, and he wins policy debates. Republican US Senator Lindsey Graham warned on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday that Donald Trump, the provocateur and showman, may not win this election. “Policy is the key to the White House.”
