Imran approaches IHC to prevent being handed over to military custody

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has approached the Islamabad High Court seeking protection from being handed over to military custody for trials related to the May 9 incidents.

A petition was filed in court by lawyer Uzair Bhundari, citing the Secretary of Law, Secretary of Interior, and the Federal Government as respondents.

The suit also names the Inspector Generals of Islamabad and Punjab Police, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and the Inspector General of Prisons as parties.

The appeal asks the court to prohibit the PTI founder from being detained by the military and to keep him under civilian authority and detention.

Khan is presently imprisoned in Adiala Jail on a variety of charges, including corruption and the May 9 riots.

Khan has already stated his dread of being taken into military custody and prosecuted in a military court.

IHC registrar objected to PTI founder’s plea.
The registrar’s office of the Islamabad High Court objected on Tuesday to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan’s appeal to avoid his probable trial in army tribunals in charges related to the May 9 events, according to APP.

The registrar’s office noted that “how a relief could be demanded by the petitioner without giving reference to any certain FIR.”\

It further protested that the petitioner did not include any documents or orders with his plea.

The agency explained how a petition may be filed at the IHC for cases in Punjab. Furthermore, it questioned how a petition could be filed here since the subject involving the military courts was already ongoing before the Supreme Court.
