Court clears way for PTI rally

LAHORE:Though the district administration has granted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) permission to hold a public gathering at Kahna near Ring Road, following an order by the Lahore High Court, a disagreement persisted over the timing of the event.

Although PTI insists on keeping the event till 11 p.m., the administration has permitted the gathering to take place between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. The panel of the Lahore High Court, presided over by Justice Farooq Haider, dismissed the PTI’s appeal to conduct a meeting at Minar-e-Pakistan and urged the government to act promptly.

Important participants in the court proceedings included the Punjab Chief Secretary, Dr. Usman Anwar, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Punjab, as well as the commissioner and deputy commissioner of Lahore.

Given the vastness of Lahore, Justice Tariq Nadeem proposed the idea of setting aside many locations for political rallies.

He emphasized the significance of making judgments that serve the public in order to leave a lasting impression.

Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, a PTI politician, made the accusation that police were intimidating party members throughout the session; the IGP refuted this. Ishtiaq A Khan, the PTI’s attorney, contended that although other parties have been permitted to organize rallies at Minar-e-Pakistan, PTI has encountered difficulties in obtaining authorization for its event.

The deputy commissioner was instructed to expeditiously address PTI’s application after the court dismissed a petition attempting to prevent the organization from staging its demonstration. September 21st is the scheduled date of the rally.

In the meantime, in order to identify those responsible for the incidents on May 9, police will place facial recognition cameras (FRCs) at strategic entry points of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) gathering.

This action is a part of a larger purge that is being carried out in advance of Saturday’s event. Comparable monitoring technologies

Lahore Police have stepped up their efforts to maintain control ahead of the rally by targeting PTI workers and sympathizers in recent days. As a result, several have been arrested. At significant rally entrances, special FRCs connected to the Criminal Record Office (CRO) have been stationed to assist in identifying suspects connected to the May 9 disturbances.

In addition to these technical safeguards, hundreds of containers have been taken by police and are being carried to possible rally locations as well as main entry and departure points into and out of cities. The purpose of the containers is to prevent PTI employees from entering the city or traveling to the demonstration.

A list of 42 PTI leaders and employees who might be arrested is also being prepared by the authorities. Prominent individuals on the list include Waqas Amjad, Nadeem Bara, Mian Hassan, Meher Wajid, Mian Aslam Iqbal, son of Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, and Mian Hassan. There are also a number of female PTI employees listed. These people, according to the police, were involved in inciting disturbance and promoting property destruction.

In order to preserve law and order, the list has been presented to request 90-day preventative detention orders.

Tensions are rising in Lahore as police detain more than 100 PTI workers, and the political climate is becoming more heated in anticipation of the September 21 event.
