Anchorperson Abdullah Hassan dies in Karachi road accident: police

Syed Abdullah Hassan, an anchorperson for a private TV channel, died in a road accident on Sharea Faisal late Sunday night, police said.

Syed Asad Raza, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) South, said the anchorperson, Hassan, 40, was driving when he collided with a walkway at a traffic light. He was taken to a hospital by rescue workers and pronounced dead.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South Sajid Sadozai blamed the incident on speeding and stated that the front half of the automobile was seriously damaged.

Meanwhile, Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has extended his sympathies to the family of late anchor Abdullah Hassan. According to a statement issued by the Sindh government, Inam paid a visit to the late anchor’s family.

“Hassan’s services in the field of journalism will be remembered,” Inam said in the statement.

Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tesori also expressed condolences at the journalist’s death. He expressed condolences to the victim’s family, saying, “May Allah grant forgiveness to the deceased, high ranks, and patience to the family, ameen.”

Shazia Marri, Pakistan People’s Party Central Spokesperson, expressed great grief and remorse over the terrible tragedy. She stated that she shared the family’s pain “in this time of sorrow and difficulty”.

Another journalist was killed in July when a petrol tank disconnected from a truck and toppled on Thursday at Karachi’s Baloch Colony overpass, according to police and rescue personnel.

Ahmed Nawaz Cheema, the Karachi Traffic Police (KTP) deputy inspector general (DIG), informed Dawn.com that the event forced both tracks of the major route to be closed for many hours till the afternoon.

He stated that at about 1:30 a.m., traffic police got information that a jet fuel tank had toppled and fallen on a passing Suzuki Mehran automobile on the overpass, killing its driver, Asad Abbas Zaidi, owing to a technical defect.

A Rescue 1122 spokeswoman recognized the deceased using an ID card discovered on his person. He further stated that the deceased worked for a private TV channel.
