The corporation, which operates Facebook, Instagram, and the messaging app WhatsApp, blamed the hacking effort on the well-known APT42 group, saying that WhatsApp has terminated a limited number of accounts.

The business released a statement saying, “This malicious activity originated in Iran and attempted to target individuals in Israel, Palestine, Iran, the United States, and the United Kingdom.”

Politicians and diplomats, including those “associated with the administrations of President Biden and former President Trump,” were among the targets, according to Meta.

Along with Microsoft and Google, the APT42 gang, often referred to as Mint Sandstorm, has also been held accountable by Meta for prior hacking efforts.
