Biden under new pressure from top Democrats as Covid halts campaign

With his campaign activities now on hold because to a Covid-19 infection, President Joe Biden is under further scrutiny on his candidacy in the November election.
It is alleged that he met one-on-one with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries to discuss their worries with his presidential run.
According to CNN, Nancy Pelosi, the former Speaker of the House, has also privately informed him that he will not be able to defeat Donald Trump in November.
Growing dissatisfaction among prominent Democrats following Mr. Biden’s appalling debate performance against Donald Trump last month was already battering his bid for reelection.

When Mr. Biden’s press secretary revealed his Covid infection on Wednesday, the 81-year-old reported very minor symptoms.
Karine Jean-Pierre stated that he would perform “all of his duties fully” while isolating himself at home in Delaware. She also mentioned that the president had a booster shot. He had already tested positive for Covid twice.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Biden was spotted attending an event and touring supporters in Las Vegas. He was had to postpone his lecture to the Latino civil rights organization UnidosUS till later in the day.
It was an abrupt and crippling conclusion to a trip that was meant to see Mr. Biden return to the campaign road in full force following the break caused by the Donald Trump’s attempted assassination.

He was observed ascending the stairs to Air Force One gingerly and slowly later on Wednesday. There was no mask on him. “Good, I feel good,” he was recorded saying as he climbed onto the aircraft.
After his disastrous performance against Trump in the televised debate last month, Biden’s re-election campaign encountered even more turbulence as the plane bobbed through the hot Nevada air.
It seems like the current election campaign is unfolding at a disorganized, erratic speed.

In recent weeks, there have been increasing calls for Mr. Biden to drop out of the electoral contest.
According to various accounts, Mr. Schumer and Mr. Jeffries voiced fears that Mr. Biden leading the November election ticket may undermine their hopes of controlling either chamber in Congress during their separate private discussions with him last week.
“The president told both leaders he is the nominee of the party, he plans to win, and he looks forward to working with both of them to pass his 100 days agenda to help working families,” White House spokesman Andrew Bates stated in response to the claims.

“It was a private conversation that will remain private,” a representative for Mr. Jeffries stated. “Idle speculation,” according to Mr. Schumer’s office, but he also said that the Democratic leader “conveyed the views of his caucus directly to President Biden.”
According to CNN, Ms. Pelosi also informed the president at a recent meeting that polls indicated he would make it more difficult for the Democrats to reclaim the House in November.
When the president resisted, Ms. Pelosi requested the president’s longtime adviser for advice on important statistics, CNN said, citing four people informed on the conversation.
When the discussion occurred is unclear. According to Ms. Pelosi’s staff, she hasn’t spoken with the president since Friday.

In recent weeks, some two dozen Democratic lawmakers have publicly urged Mr. Biden to resign, notably California congressman Adam Schiff, who has urged Mr. Biden to “pass the torch”.
According to Mr. Schiff, Mr. Biden “has been one of the most consequential presidents in our nation’s history,” and by letting a fellow Democrat run, he might “secure his legacy of leadership.”
Mr. Biden stated he did not think he could take over as president with the nation so “divided” in a BET interview.
Additionally, the president said for the first time that if any of his physicians declared he had a “medical condition,” he would think about withdrawing from the campaign.

Prior to the revelation of Mr Biden’s sickness on Wednesday, reporters on the Las Vegas trip reported they were hustled from a campaign appearance at a Mexican restaurant to the city’s airport.
The restaurant was alive with color, with Mexican paintings and guitars on the walls and banners hanging from the ceiling. One wall was decorated with “Biden-Harris” posters.
Mr. Biden entered a large dining area through the kitchen entrance, surrounded by a Secret Service detail, while ceiling fans whirled at low speeds and Latino music played quietly from the speakers.
He shook hands with diners who had evidently been preparing some time in advance for his coming, kissed one, and selfish

The president seemed stiffer and slower than the day before, when he delivered an energetic speech to a national civil rights group.
Later in the day, the president’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, stated that Mr Biden experienced upper respiratory symptoms, including a runny nose and cough, and had received his first dosage of Paxlovid.

Dr. O’Connor stated that he felt great during his first event of the day, but subsequently tested positive.

Mr. Biden thanked everyone on X for “the well wishes” and promised to “work to get the job done for the American people” while recovering.
In another tweet on his account, he stated: “I’m sick” before going on to add “… of Elon Musk and his wealthy friends attempting to buy this election. And if you agree, contribute here.”
The tweet included a link to a contribution gateway.
