Election tribunal case: PTI objects CJ’s inclusion on larger bench

ISLAMABAD:The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawyer has raised objections to the inclusion of the Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa in the larger bench of the Supreme Court (SC) hearing the election tribunal case.

To hear the electoral Commission of Pakistan’s appeal against the Lahore High Court’s creation of electoral tribunals, a five-member bigger bench led by the CJ met.

Hamid Khan, the attorney for Salman Akram Raja, submitted a request for an adjournment, and Niazullah Niazi, the attorney for the PTI, protested to the chief justice’s appointment, stating that his client thought the highest court shouldn’t be on the bench.

The CJ rejected the argument, saying that the hearing will go forward with the existing bench.

Your protest has been acknowledged. The CJ responded, “Please have a seat. “The Chief Justice and the Election Commission are at odds over this topic. Why is this case of such relevance to a private individual?”

A two-member Supreme Court bench requested a record of the correspondence between the four high courts and the electoral Commission of Pakistan (ECP) last month and submitted a request about electoral tribunals to the Practice and Procedure Committee for the creation of a bigger bench.

The ECP then contested the LHC’s establishment of eight electoral tribunals and announced its intention to abstain from these “unconstitutional” tribunals’ hearings.
