Faizabad interchange closed ahead of PTI, JI anticipated protest

In response to the upcoming Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) protests, authorities have closed the Faizabad interchange connecting Rawalpindi to Islamabad by placing heavy barriers.

The opposition parties are protesting the increase in power costs, inflated electricity bills, and the release of PTI chairman Imran Khan.

On Sunday, PTI leader Asad Qaiser announced that people around the nation will demonstrate today for the liberation of all political prisoners, including party founder Imran Khan, in order to recapture the mandate.

Asad said that there will be three demands: the quick release of detained PTI officials and supporters, peace in the country, and a protest against rising prices.

Today, containers have been placed on both sides of the Faizabad bridge, obstructing all access to and from Islamabad. A large police presence has been deployed on the Rawalpindi side to preserve calm, and Punjab has also implemented Section 144 for three days ahead of the demonstrations.

Containers are also stationed along GT traffic and at key locations to prevent traffic disruptions.

These barricades are ready to block off crucial passageways if necessary. GT Road might be closed at Bhai Khan Bridge and Mandra Toll Plaza, with Rawat T-Chowk named as another probable sealing spot by Islamabad police.

Islamabad police have placed containers on the link route connecting Lahore and Peshawar to the highway, causing huge lineups and considerable delays because just one lane is permitted for vehicles to enter Islamabad.

The obstruction has led in massive traffic bottlenecks, creating considerable inconveniences for travelers from Islamabad Airport to Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
