The ceremony was the climax of a series of pre-events intended at promoting Indonesian togetherness, mutual respect, and patriotism. The ceremony, known as “Upacara Bendera” in Indonesian, included the Embassy’s flag hoisting squad, which included Indonesian students. The team was honoured to receive the Indonesian flag from the Chargé d’Affaires, who also functioned as the Ceremony Inspector. The red and white flag was then raised with great ceremony while the Indonesian National Anthem, “Great Indonesia” (“Indonesia Raya”), played.

Following the ceremony, Chargé d’Affaires Kusuma led visitors to the embassy’s hall, where they were given Tumpeng, a cone-shaped rice dish that is usually part of festivities. In his speech, Kusuma underlined the spirit of freedom and brotherhood between Indonesia and Pakistan, saying, “Indonesia and Pakistan, the two largest Muslim countries in the world, dosti zindahbad!”

The event was attended by embassy personnel, their families, and hundreds of Indonesian diaspora members from several locations in Pakistan.
