As part of its campaign against unauthorized construction and encroachment, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) shut the PTI Central Secretariat, which is housed in Sector G-8/4 of the federal capital, earlier in May for breaking building bylaws.

The secretariat was eventually opened on June 14; unfortunately, this event did not last long. Due to insufficient fire and life safety precautions, the central office was locked last week once more.

Justice Imtiaz asked whether a notice had been sent prior to the sealing during the hearing against the Metropolitan Corporation’s decision to shut the PTI Secretariat. In 2017 and 2018, public notices were presented by the counsel for the Metropolitan Corporation.

The presentation of notices from 2017 and 2018, along with the building’s sealing in 2024, is dubious, Justice Imtiaz commented. It is inappropriate to close down a political party’s office in this way, she said, pleading with the parties to consult and find an amicable solution.

In response, the attorney for the Metropolitan Corporation stated that if the necessary safety precautions are taken, the building will be opened. Latif Khosa, the PTI’s attorney, promised the judge that the safety precautions will be finished in fifteen days.

The court postponed making a ruling on the motion to de-seal the PTI Secretariat, instead directing Sardar Latif Khosa and the Metropolitan Corporation’s attorney to settle the dispute through negotiation.
