ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife Bushra Bibi were acquitted in the Iddat case, which has been challenged in the Islamabad High Court.

Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, Khawar Farid Maneka, filed an appeal against the acquittal in the Iddat case before the IHC on Friday. In his appeal, Khawar Farid Maneka has asked the court to overturn the acquittal ruling, claiming that it cannot be sustained.

In his appeal, Khawar Farid Maneka listed the federal government, the PTI’s founder Imran Khan, and Bushra Bibi as respondents.

On July 13, the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad reversed the convictions of PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Iddat case. Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka announced his reserved ruling, acquitting the former prime minister and first lady in the Iddat case and setting aside their seven-year penalties.

The court stated in its decision that Imran Khan and his wife should be released immediately if they are not wanted in any other cases. Both petitions requesting the creation of a medical board and talks with religious scholars are now dismissed, according to the ruling.
