Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi challenge arrests in new Toshakhana case

The district court ordered the superintendent of Adiala Jail to produce Imran Khan via video connection in case of bail requests.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have approached the Islamabad High Court challenging their arrests related to the new Toshakhana case.

Barrister Salman Safdar and Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry submitted the plea, arguing that both persons’ arrests by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) were unlawful and requesting their release. The petition also says that any arrests in the case should be subject to high court instructions.

On the other hand, the Islamabad District and Sessions Court heard bail applications for Imran Khan in six instances and Bushra Bibi in one.

The bail proceedings were presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Afzal Majoka. During the hearings, the PTI founder’s attorney, Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, informed the court that Barrister Salman Safdar is now involved with matters in the Lahore High Court. He requested that the hearing be postponed until the following week.

Judge Majoka stated that a speedy hearing is not now practicable, with the next available session scheduled for September. The judge denied the lawyer’s plea for an adjournment until next week, citing the court’s hectic workload that week.

The bail proceedings were presided over by Afzal Majoka, an Additional District and Sessions Judge. During the hearings, the PTI founder’s counsel Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry informed the court that Barrister Salman Safdar is now involved in litigation in the Lahore High Court. He requested that the hearing be continued until the following week.
