Israeli airstrikes kill at least 24 in Gaza City, health officials say

CAIRO (Reuters) – According to Gaza health authorities and doctors, Israeli troops killed at least 24 Palestinians in three different airstrikes on Gaza City early on Tuesday. Among the deceased was the sister of Ismail Haniyeh, the leader of the militant Islamist group Hamas.

According to locals, Israeli tanks also advanced farther into Rafah’s western neighborhoods throughout the course of the night, blowing destroyed houses.
According to medical personnel, two Israeli airstrikes that struck two Gaza City schools resulted in at least 14 fatalities. Ten more people died in another attack on a home in the Shati (Beach) camp, one of the eight historically significant refugee camps in the Gaza Strip.

The extended family of Hamas political commander Haniyeh, who is located in Qatar, owned the house in Shati. According to family members and medical personnel, one of his sisters perished along with other family members.

Neighbor Hassan Kaskin reported that the Haniyeh family home was struck without prior notice on Tuesday before morning. Video that Reuters was able to capture showed the multi-story structure completely destroyed.

“They were 10 individuals, three of them were scattered outside the house and seven under the rubble – with no prior warning, with people around them, and there are injuries among the neighbours,” Kaskin stated to Reuters.

Leading Hamas’ diplomatic efforts and serving as the public face of the organization that has ruled Gaza since 2007, Haniyeh has lost several family members—including three sons—to Israeli bombings since October 7.

According to the Israeli military, terrorists involved in plotting attacks against Israel were the focus of Israeli forces’ nighttime targeting in Gaza City. It said that among the militants were several who had taken hostages during the cross-border raid on Israel on October 7 of last year, which was spearheaded by Hamas.
