Joe Biden “Staying In The Race” But His Reelection Bid Hangs In Balance

Joe Biden is “staying in the race,” but his chances of winning reelection are uncertain.
Dissension within Joe Biden‘s Democratic Party has evolved into overt demands that he withdraw from the US presidential contest against Donald Trump.

After failing to silence critics who urged him to withdraw from the White House contest, Joe Biden’s attempt to move over a dismal debate performance left his campaign for reelection as president hanging in the balance on Saturday.
For five House congressmen, whispers of disapproval within his own Democratic Party have turned into outright demands that he resign. Furthermore, if Biden persists in continuing the current route, some significant funders have threatened to stop support.

The most recent House Democrat to split from the pack, Angie Craig, stated on Saturday, “I do not believe that the President can effectively campaign and win against Donald Trump.”

Hakeem Jeffries, the House minority leader, has arranged for a virtual gathering of prominent Democratic lawmakers on Sunday to deliberate on the optimal course of action. Additionally, Democratic Senator Mark Warner is purportedly in the process of organizing a comparable discussion within the upper house.

During the highly anticipated television interview on Friday, Biden’s approach was to vehemently refute the declining poll numbers and apprehensions about his psychological and physical health, which were sparked by his lackluster showing versus opponent Donald Trump.

He said the debate fiasco was merely a “bad night” and not a sign of growing infirmity or cognitive loss, blaming it on a terrible cold. Furthermore, the 81-year-old insisted that he would not bow to pressure to call off his candidacy.

“If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get out of the race,’ I’d get out of the race,” he said. “But the Lord Almighty is not coming down.”

But the case for less heavenly involvement does seem to be growing.

Internal dissenr

Despite this, Biden’s campaign staff is moving forward, holding two rallies in Pennsylvania on Sunday and traveling to other crucial states later in the month.

Before Friday’s interview, Biden made a strong, animated stump speech at a Wisconsin event, adamantly stating, “I’m staying in the race.” Trump will lose to me.”

Then followed the interview with ABC that didn’t seem to allay the worries of some who claim Biden has trouble communicating when he’s not using a teleprompter.

Even as he attempted to sidestep inquiries regarding his mental acuity and rejected the idea that his party would think about replacing him, some of his responses were hesitant, rambling, and hard to understand.

When word leaked out on Saturday that the White House had supplied the questions for the president’s interviews with two Black radio stations on Friday, the Biden campaign had one more minor fire to put out.

Out of touch?

In a CNN opinion piece, Democratic strategist David Axelrod implied that Biden was in “denial.” Illusion. Disobedience.

“As stated by Biden, the stakes are quite high. And if he does, as I believe he does, he will finally stand aside out of a sense of duty and patriotism,” Axelrod said in the article that was released on Saturday.

“If he does not, it will be Biden’s age, and not Trump’s moral and ethical void, that will dominate the rest of this most important campaign and sully the president’s historic legacy.”

Conversely, Trump teasingly advised Biden to “ignore his many critics and move forward, with alacrity and strength.”

“He ought to be incisive, exact, and enthusiastic, akin to his performance in The Debate,” the Republican opponent stated on social media on Saturday.

Democrats are mainly suppressing any brewing dissatisfaction with their leader for the time being, at least in public.

However, with just four months before election day, it would be imperative to replace Biden as nominee as quickly as possible. In the meanwhile, senior Congressional Democrats’ meetings will be closely watched for any indications of further open dissent.

In the meanwhile, Biden and his campaign staff appear to be riding it out.

His next big test is a news conference that the NATO leaders are holding in Washington on Thursday.

In the ABC interview, Biden claimed that serving as US president required him to be constantly evaluated mentally when asked why he doesn’t undergo a separate neurological examination.

“I have a cognitive test every single day,” he stated. “Not only am I campaigning, I’m running the world.”
