Monsoon floods in India’s Gujarat kill at least 28 people

Intense monsoon rains and floods in India’s Gujarat state killed at least 28 people in the past three days, some drowning and others hit by falling trees, government officials said.

The meteorological service issued a warning that Thursday is predicted to bring additional intense rain to the western coastal state.

Over 30,000 people have left their homes as rivers have overflowed their banks.

The state administration said late on Wednesday that 13 individuals had perished by drowning and the remaining individuals had been crushed by falling trees or homes.

According to the Indian Express newspaper, 35 persons have passed away in the state thus far.

Disaster relief workers saved about 1,856 individuals, and army personnel were sent to do relief work.

According to the press statement, Vadodara was one of the cities most severely impacted. There were severe disruptions to the electricity supply, leaving almost 1,000 communities without power.

Disaster management personnel shared photos and videos of themselves utilizing tires and inflatable boats to save individuals who were stuck in rushing waterways.

Although researchers claim climate change is changing weather patterns and increasing the frequency of catastrophic weather events, rains still wreak extensive harm every year.

Over twenty persons lost their lives as a result of landslides and floods that struck the northeastern Indian state of Tripura last week.

Over the same period, floods in Bangladesh, a neighboring country located downstream from India, claimed the lives of at least 40 individuals, forcing roughly 300,000 civilians to seek shelter in emergency shelters.
