Musk to move SpaceX and X HQ over gender identity law

Billionaire Elon Musk has announced plans to relocate the corporate offices of two of his most well-known businesses, the social networking platform X and the rocket company SpaceX, from California to Texas.
He said that the change was brought about by recent state legislation, namely a new law that forbids schools from enacting policies requiring employees to disclose a student’s gender identify to any third party, including parents.
According to a governor’s spokeswoman, the measure “protects the critical role of parents while keeping children safe.”

However, Mr. Musk described it as “the last straw” in a social media post.
The billionaire is a resident of Texas, which has no income tax, and he previously relocated Tesla’s headquarters there in 2021.
In the US, there is a lot of discussion concerning what parents should be informed by their children’s schools about their gender identification.
While some LGBTQ activists contend that students have a right to privacy, others counter that parents should have knowledge of what is going on with their kids.
“It protects the child-parent relationship by preventing politicians and school staff from inappropriately intervening in family matters and attempting to control if, when, and how families have deeply personal conversations,” Brandon Richards told the AP.

The father of a transgender daughter, Mr. Musk, has previously stated that he “supports trans” but expressed irritation with pronouns, calling them “an aesthetically horrible nightmare.”
In 2022, Vivian Jenna Wilson, the billionaire’s daughter, sued to sever her relationship with him.
During her application to officially alter her name and gender, she stated that she no longer want to “be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form”.

Mr. Musk declared last year that he would work to make transgender medical care illegal.
He noted that he had already voiced his objection to the measure. “SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California to Starbase, Texas, because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies,” he said in a post on X on Tuesday.
On social media, California Governor Gavin Newsom criticized Mr. Musk’s choice.
He shared an image of a 2022 tweet from Donald Trump saying that if Mr. Musk requested, he would “drop to [his] knees and beg” coupled with the words, “You bent the knee.”

Moving headquarters

In the past, states have actively fought to attract corporations to locate their headquarters and bring high-paying corporate employment with them.
According to state data, SpaceX employs over 5,000 individuals in California and already has a sizable base of operations in Texas.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott responded to Mr. Musk’s vow by saying, “This cements Texas as the leader in space exploration.”
Regarding whether the choice to relocate headquarters will result in employment layoffs in California, neither SpaceX nor X provided a response to requests for comment.

Following the attempted murder of Donald Trump on Saturday, Mr. Musk openly backed the latter for president.
On Tuesday, the Wall Street Journal revealed that Elon Musk will be contributing $45 million a month to his campaign.
On X, Mr. Musk replied with a meme that seemed to refute the allegation; but, he then appeared to acknowledge the article’s veracity by endorsing a post that stated he was offering millions of dollars to support Trump’s election.
