Owner of suspicious bag in Islamabad mosque allowed to go

ISLAMABAD: A man, who was taken into custody after an abandoned bag was found from a mosque located near the venue of the now-cancelled PTI public gathering on August 21, was released after nothing suspicious was found in it.

According to Dawn, an unclaimed suitcase was discovered in a mosque near the public gathering on the same day that the Chief Commissioner’s Office canceled the PTI’s NOC.

After an investigation, it was discovered that the bag had been lying in the mosque since the morning, therefore the mosque was evacuated and a bomb disposal crew was dispatched to the scene.

A guy was arrested at the event after several individuals identified him as the bag’s owner, according to the police, who added that after scanning the bag, the bomb disposal team transferred it to a police station, stating that it needed to be examined again.

During interrogation, the individual was recognized as Zulfikar Haider, a Lodhran resident and PTI supporter.

He had traveled from Lodhran to join the public meeting and remained at the mosque; however, when the police began detaining party activists, he panicked and fled to a nearby region.

The police approached their counterparts in Lodhran to confirm the man’s identity; however, since nothing unlawful or suspicious was discovered against him, he was released.

Meanwhile, the cops grabbed his luggage and other belongings.
