Two warships, PNS Babar and PNS Hunain, will be formally incorporated into the Pakistan Navy fleet on Defense Day, according to the 24NewsHD TV station.

PNS Babar was built in Turkey and PNS Hunain in Romania. These will enhance Pakistan Navy’s defense capability.

The Pakistan Navy has significantly improved its maritime defense capabilities with the addition of two new warships to its fleet: PNS Babur and PNS Hunain.

The ceremonial induction ceremony will take place on Defence Day, marking a significant milestone in the country’s naval strength.

PNS Babur, the first MILGEM/Babur-class ship built in Turkey, and PNS Hunain, an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) built in Romania, were both added to the Pakistan Navy’s fleet.

The ceremony was attended by President Asif Ali Zardari as the principal guest.

PNS Babar’s construction began on June 4, 2020, and it was launched on August 15, 2021.

The ship was formally commissioned on September 23, 2023.

“Equipped with a Vertical Launching System (VLS), the Babar-class vessels are designed for multi-dimensional warfare, capable of engaging threats on the surface, underwater, and in the air,” said the International Organization for Standardization (ISPR).

Three more Babur-class ships—PNS Badr, Tariq, and Khyber—are now in various stages of construction at Istanbul and Karachi.

PNS Hunain, the third Yarmook-class OPV, was built at Romania’s Galati Shipyard.

This 2,600-tonne warship is intended for both surface and airborne warfare, as well as search and rescue missions.

It has a VLS system that can fire surface-to-air missiles and a 76mm main gun, which is complemented by two 20mm secondary guns.

The inclusion of these warships demonstrates Pakistan’s strengthening defense alliance with Turkey and Romania, and the ships are projected to greatly increase the Pakistan Navy’s operating capabilities.
