Pakistan successfully tests Shaheen-II ballistic missile

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan successfully conducted a training launch of the surface-to-surface Shaheen II ballistic missile to check different technical parameters, according to a statement from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday.

According to the military’s media arm, the launch was also intended to evaluate the performance of several sub-systems used to increase accuracy and survivability.

Senior officials from the Strategic Plans Division, Army Strategic Forces Command, as well as scientists and engineers from strategic organizations, watched the training start, according to the ISPR.

In response to the Shaheen-II launch, the director general Strategic Plans Division praised the technical expertise, devotion, and commitment of the scientists who contributed to this historic achievement.

President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, and the three service chiefs all congratulated the scientists and engineers on their accomplishments.

Today’s training launch occurs as the country’s security services frequently conduct routine test launches of various missiles in its arsenal.

Last month, the Pakistan Navy displayed battle preparedness by successfully launching FN-6 surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) in Karachi.

During the stunning firepower display, the PN’s GBAD system launched SAMs, effectively engaging the designated aerial targets.
