Pakistan urges immediate ceasefire in Gaza at OIC meeting

At the recent Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Foreign Office Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi called for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza amid ongoing Israeli military operations.

Leading the delegation at the two-day meeting on August 29-30, Qazi criticized the increase of violence in Gaza and the West Bank, emphasizing the terrible humanitarian catastrophe caused by the conflict. He emphasized that the conflicts had claimed the lives of over 40,000 Palestinians and displaced approximately 2 million others.

Qazi said that the OIC must act decisively in reaction to Israel’s military onslaught and its damage on Islam’s hallowed places. He demanded an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian access to Gaza, and steps to keep the crisis from spreading further throughout the Middle East.

He also demanded responsibility for Israeli acts that have infringed the sovereignty and territorial integrity of neighboring countries like Iran and Lebanon.

The administration has frequently brought up the problem in international venues, including the United Nations. The nation has also dispatched many humanitarian supplies to help Palestinians afflicted by the violence.

During the conversation, Qazi discussed the larger issues confronting the Muslim world, including the rise in Islamophobia. He described a global crisis marked by attacks on mosques, destruction of the Holy Qur’an, and prejudice against Muslims.

He asked the OIC, through its special envoy on Islamophobia, to work with the United Nations to create an action plan to successfully tackle these concerns.
