Petroleum sales plunge 11pc in July

KARACHI: The country’s petroleum product sales fell by 11% in July, kicking off the new fiscal year on a dismal note.

Petroleum product sales fell by 17% in July this fiscal year compared to June of previous year, according to oil sales figures issued on Thursday.The sale of all items decreased, but a huge decline was seen in the sale of furnace oil (FO) due to its reducing usage to produce electricity in the count.

According to the statistics, oil sales totaled 1.2 million tonnes in July of this fiscal year, up from 1.35 million tonnes in July of FY25 and 1.45 million tonnes in July of last year.Petrol sales totaled 0.59 million tons, a 10% decrease from 0.66 million tonnes in July FY24. The sale of high-speed diesel was 0.49 million tonnes, a 6.0% decline from 0.46 million tonnes sold in July FY24.

Furnace oil sales plummeted 46% to 0.08 million tonnes in July of this fiscal year, compared to 0.14 million tonnes in July FY24.The breakdown of listed oil marketing businesses revealed that oil sales for all companies decreased during the month under study.

Pakistan State Oil (PSO) sales fell 19% to 0.55 million tonnes in July current fiscal year, compared to 0.68 million tonnes in the same month previous year.Attock Petroleum Limited’s sales fell 23 percent to 0.10 million tonnes, compared to 0.13 million tonnes in July of previous year.Shell Pakistan’s sales increased by 8.0 percent in July of current fiscal year compared to the same month last year, whereas Hascol’s sales decreased by 12 percent.
