PM takes ruling MPs into confidence

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hosted a dinner in honour of lawmakers belonging to the ruling alliance, and also took them into confidence on the “constitutional amendments package”.

Senators and National Assembly members from the coalition parties pledged their complete support in parliament for the proposed constitutional reform to raise the retirement age of superior court judges.

According to sources, during the meeting, the Prime Minister urged members of the Senate and the National Assembly to assure their attendance in Islamabad today (Sunday), since both chambers of parliament will convene on Sunday to pass the package.

The Prime Minister also informed the audience that Parliament is the primary institution with the authority to pass legislation.

Meanwhile, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with the Prime Minister to inform him on the government’s team meeting with JUI-F chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

According to reports, the ministers also discussed the JUI-F’s key “proposals” with the Prime Minister.

Previously, the government delegation met with the JUI-F chairman and requested his party’s support for the constitutional revision proposal in Parliament.
