PTI to move SJC against ad hoc judges in SC

ISLAMABAD:The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced it will move the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against the appointment of four ad-hoc judges in the Supreme Court during the court’s summer vacations.

Party Chairman Gohar Ali Khan, National Assembly Opposition Leader Omar Ayub, Senate Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz, and senior party leader Asad Qaiser all denounced the judges’ recruitment proposal in a press conference on Thursday.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa requested four retired Supreme Court justices to serve as ad hoc judges. However, two of them, Justice (retd) Musheer Alam and Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir, declined to accept the job.

Barrister Gohar said that the appointment of ad hoc judges was fraudulent. “Four judges are being appointed at the same time during the vacations with a view to bringing in like-minded judges,” Gohar told CNN. “We

“We are sending this issue to the Supreme Judicial Council,” he said.

Simultaneously, a joint parliamentary party meeting of the PTI and Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) opposed the proposal to induct ad hoc justices in the Supreme Court, claiming that the plan was designed to establish an artificial numerical superiority for an individual, according to the news release.

During the media encounter, Omar Ayub argued that the new ad hoc judges should not hear PTI matters. He stated that no one could challenge the PTI’s patriotism or try to ban the party, and that those considering doing so were “the ignorant, sitting in Murree”.

“You imprisoned our leader, but our party remains intact. The Tehreek-e-Insaf cannot be banned, according to Omar Ayub. He further stated that he met with the PTI founder in Adiala Jail and advised him to organize the party.

“Imran said this government has gone mad, but we will get our [reserved] seats [in accordance with the Supreme Court decision],” stated the minister. In light of the Supreme Court verdict, he stated that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and the four commission members should retire immediately.

“Apply Article 6 [of the Constitution] to them immediately,” Omar stated, alluding to the high treason charge. He emphasized that the party will host a rally in Islamabad. He said that PTI legislators were being targeted by authorities and involved in bogus cases.

Meanwhile, according to a PTI news statement, a joint parliamentary party conference rejected the government’s intention to outlaw the PTI and launch high treason proceedings against its founder under Article 6, saying that such a move would cause anarchy in the country.

According to the news release, the participants urged that Article 6 be used against individuals who had violated the Constitution and broken the law over the previous two years.

They noted that the move to ban the PTI demonstrated the desperation of a non-representative administration.

“The move to slap a ban on the country’s most popular political party is contemptuous of the Supreme Court since it seeks to deprive the PTI of reserved seats. That is why all political parties, even those aligned with the administration, have firmly denounced this undemocratic and illegitimate measure,” the statement said.

The gathering blasted the government’s veiled statements about not executing the Supreme Court’s reserved seats judgment, warning that any deviation from the court’s ruling would result in political instability.

The attendees demanded action against CEC Sikandar Sultan Raja and officials of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), citing evidence of cheating in the February 8 polls, including the “confession of then Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Chattha”.

The parliamentary party severely denounced the mistreatment of PTI Vice Chairman and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi during his transfer to Lahore. It described it as the worst type of human rights violation to subject a vulnerable person to harsh treatment and unethical activity.

The gathering condemned the “illegal arrests and enforced disappearances” of PTI parliamentarians. “The unlawful and unconstitutional detention of PTI MNAs Moazzam Jatoi and Sahibzada Amir Sultan is a violation of parliamentary traditions,” according to the release.

Participants at the conference expressed disappointment that no progress had been achieved in the cases of the missing people, who included Azhar Mashwani’s brothers, Dr Shahbaz Gill, and a senior member of the PTI Central Media Department.
