Ruet-e-Hilal Committee meets today for Muharram moon sighting

QUETTA: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene in Quetta on Saturday in order to observe the moon during Muharram-ul-Haram, 1446 Hijri, the new Islamic month.

Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Ruet-Hilal Committee, will lead the moon seeing session at the DC Complex in Quetta.

Participants in the activity will include members of the zonal and central committees. The zonal committee meetings will take place in a number of locations, including Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore.

The central committee will get the proof of the moon sighting from the zonal committees.

After obtaining proof, the chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will declare the ultimate verdict about moon sighting.

It might be challenging to see the moon in overcast conditions.

In the meanwhile, to ensure the safety of Muharram processions, the Punjabi government enforced section 144 and outlawed pillion riding throughout the province.
