Russia to help modernize Pakistan’s agriculture with machinery and fertilizer plant upgrades

Russia has agreed to supply modern agricultural machinery to Pakistan in a bid to boost crop yields and improve agricultural productivity, according to a statement from Russian Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Aleksei Gruzdev.

The declaration was made during a meeting between Gruzdev and Rana Tanveer Hussain, Pakistan’s Minister for Industries, Production, and National Food Security, in Islamabad.

The two officials talked about how to improve agricultural outputs while also boosting bilateral trade.

In addition to stressing the necessity of contemporary equipment for Pakistan’s agricultural industry, Rana Tanveer stated that the government stands prepared to offer Russian investors in the nation all the facilities they require.

Gruzdev disclosed that Russia is interested in updating fertilizer factories in Pakistan and offering training programs to assist Pakistani farmers in boosting output, in addition to providing machinery. Gruzdev emphasized the possibilities for more trade collaboration during a separate discussion with Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan, notably in the export of metal products and agricultural and railroad apparatus.

The parties also talked about the forthcoming 5th Joint Working Group conference, which is set for this month’s 26th in Islamabad and would see both countries look into new opportunities for economic cooperation.

A plan to build a new steel mill in Karachi with Russian assistance is being considered by the Pakistani government, and both nations have decided to set up working groups to advance the project.

In this context, Minister for Industries, Production, and National Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain met with Russian Federation Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Aleksei Gruzdev on Wednesday.

The government had designated 700 acres of Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) property for the construction of the new steel factory, the minister for Pakistan notified his colleague.

He said that Pakistan was compelled to buy iron and steel valued at about $2.7 billion, even though the country was endowed with large reserves of iron ore, estimated at 1,887 million tons.

According to Rana Tanveer Hussain, the steel industry in Pakistan has limited efficiency due to its segmentation, consisting of 600 small units, and its reliance on outdated and inefficient technologies.

Because of its proximity to Port Qasim and location near Karachi, the new steel mill’s proposed location will save on raw material transportation costs.

Experts from Pakistan’s agriculture and industry are scheduled to visit Russia, which will be a big step toward deepening bilateral relations.
