According to Politico, the Saudi monarch has informed US legislators that he is putting his life in jeopardy by spearheading a grand deal with the US and Israel, which involves normalizing Saudi-Israeli relations.

In one of his talks with US Congress members, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman even addressed Anwar Sadat, the Egyptian leader assassinated after signing a peace treaty with Israel. According to the article, he also inquired about the United States’ efforts to safeguard Sadat. He even detailed the dangers he confronts in finalizing the agreement and how he plans to justify the action, which is certain to infuriate Arab countries currently embroiled in a conflict with Israel over Gaza.

He also voiced concern about losing followers in his own country, since “Saudis care very deeply” about Israel’s battle in Palestine.

“The way he put it was, ‘Saudis care very deeply about this, and the streets throughout the Middle East care deeply about this, and my tenure as the keeper of the holy sites of Islam will not be secure if I don’t address what is the most pressing issue of justice in our region,” said a source who was familiar with the situation.
