US presidential vote to be impacted by crypto views, report finds

Almost three in four crypto currency owners say their vote for US president in November will be affected by a candidate’s crypto stance, according to a report that was released Friday.

“For the first time in United States history, crypto has become a significant campaign issue in a presidential election,” US-based crypto exchange and custodial bank business Gemini stated in its 2024 State of Crypto report.

It revealed that more than one in every five Americans, or 21%, presently hold bitcoin, and the great majority, or 73%, want to evaluate a candidate’s stance on cryptocurrencies before voting for the next president.

More over one-third (37%) indicated a candidate’s stance on cryptocurrencies would have “a significant impact” on their presidential vote.

According to the poll, 41% of non-owners believe there is legal ambiguity around the use of bitcoin.

Among crypto owners, 18% see cryptocurrencies as a viable alternative to government currencies administered by a central bank, and the same number believe that increased government monitoring of the crypto business will be beneficial in protecting consumers from unscrupulous actors.

In addition, 41% of crypto owners believe that mandating crypto exchanges to follow rigorous rules will boost trust in the market.

The Data Driven Consulting Group, on behalf of Gemini, conducted the study with 1,200 Americans between May 23 and June 28.
