Video appears to show IDF soldiers sexually abusing Palestinian detainee

An Israeli television channel has broadcast CCTV footage allegedly showing Israel Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers sexually abusing a Palestinian detainee.

The footage depicts scores of convicts laying face down on the floor, hands on the backs of their heads.

One of the detainees is escorted to a hidden area. Three soldiers suddenly emerge, holding shields to hide the view.

A military dog on a leash can be seen barking furiously at the prisoner from only a few metres away.

The event, which is believed to have occurred in the Sde Teiman jail in July, has been strongly condemned by the White House as “deeply concerning” and should be thoroughly investigated.

When asked about the film, US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller responded: “We have seen the video, and claims of sexual mistreatment of detainees are appalling. The Israeli government, namely the IDF, should conduct a thorough investigation.

“There should be no tolerance for sexual assault or rape against any inmate, period.

“If there are detainees who have been sexually assaulted or raped, the government of Israel, the IDF, need to fully investigate those actions and hold anyone responsible accountable to the full extent of the law,” according to him.

The UN further requested a “full-scale investigation” and referred to “a number of videos in recent months which show gross violations of the rights of Palestinians detained by Israel including acts of ill-treatment, torture, sexual violence, and rape” .

The prison, located in Israel’s Negev region, houses a large number of Gazans accused of participating in or helping the 7 October assault.

They are detained without charge, guarded by IDF reservists and military police, and do not have access to counsel.

In recent weeks, there have been claims that guards have raped several of the captives.

Riots broke out, and far-right Israelis rushed the jail, demanding the release of nine soldiers detained on suspicion of mistreatment.

Sky News has asked the IDF for comment on the clip.
