‘You’re answerable to Allah, not agencies,’ Imran Khan tells judge

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan harshly criticised the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman during the Toshakhana reference hearing on Sunday, Express News reported.

The former prime minister, who is currently serving a sentence of life in Adila jail alongside his wife Bushra Bibi, protested to the media’s absence at the beginning of the session, saying, “If the media is not allowed, I will walk out of the court.

The hearing then started when the judge ordered the media representatives to be taken inside the jail.

Recently cleared in a significant “unlawful marriage” case, Imran Khan addressed the judge personally, claiming that his wife, Bushra Bibi, was unrelated to the Toshakhana issue. However, he was arrested hours later on the basis of a fresh government-filed reference.

“I have read the Qur’an four times in jail, and it places a great responsibility on judges,” he said. “Bushra Bibi is only imprisoned to cause me distress.”

As Bushra Bibi was being released from Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail yesterday, she was also arrested again in connection with the new NAB reference pertaining to the sale of state gifts (Toshakhana).

Accusing higher authorities of picking on his wife because of his decisions, he declared, “My wife is being targeted by the king because I removed him from the ISI position, and my wife did not support him.”

Put me in jail, but don’t touch my wife. Judge, Allah is your true master, not the ISI. Imran begged, “Judge Bashir stated that a choice was taken at gunpoint.

“A former prime minister being told in the middle of the night that he has to appear for a brand new case in the morning,” Imran laughed.

He attacked the accountability monitor, claiming that it functions like a robot, carrying out tasks for which it is compensated.

“The jewellery set, valued at Rs18 million, was claimed to be worth Rs3.25 billion in the previous reference,” he continued.

“I’m talking exclusively about my spouse. It was a serious error to re-arrest her [Bushra Bibi], Imran stated.

Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi sat together the entire hearing.

Judge Afzal Majoka issued a brief order yesterday stating that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were to be freed right away unless they were required in other instances.

Hours after the acquittal was declared, the NAB arrested Imran and his wife, even though he had pleaded not guilty in the Iddat case—the last charge for which the former premier was spending time in his present detention at Adiala.
